For over 30 years, Gilchrist Center Baltimore has provided compassionate, end-of-life care to residents of Baltimore City. Many of our patients have been medically or socially underserved, homeless or without an able caregiver. Regardless of their circumstances, people can come to Gilchrist Center Baltimore and receive excellent care in a home-like environment.
Gilchrist offers care to anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay. Each year, Gilchrist provides $1.2 million in uncompensated care. For many of our patients, there are no other options for care except for a hospital emergency room. We estimate that we save the State of Maryland $6M annually by providing end-of-life care at Gilchrist Center Baltimore.
Last year, 100 people joined Team RUN GBMC in the Baltimore Running Festival to raise critical funds for Gilchrist Center Baltimore. This year, we’re hoping for even more. Participants can choose the 5k, half marathon, relay team or full marathon. The most popular distance is the 5k – there is little training required for that length.
I ran the half marathon two years ago, and last year ran (and walked) the full. I was motivated by knowing that the funds I raised would provide compassionate care to many of my neighbors in Baltimore City. When the run got tough, I kept my focus on them and the daily challenges they face.
I also thought about the amazing team at Gilchrist Center Baltimore, who – day after day – provides the compassionate care that they’d want their own loved ones to receive. We frequently hear from our patients and families that our staff has become their family, and how grateful they are for the care they receive.
I hope you will consider joining us for this year’s Baltimore Running Festival on October 20, 2018. The funds that you raise will help Gilchrist Center Baltimore fulfill our mission.
