Music Therapy

Individuals with life-limiting illnesses can often benefit from creative art therapies designed to ease discomfort, improve communication and provide an outlet for expression. Music therapy, combined with the medical attention and interventions of the hospice team, can help improve quality of life by relieving symptoms and addressing needs related to the end of life.

At Gilchrist Hospice Care, a board certified music therapist (MT-BC) will listen, perform, write and record music in an effort to meet the social, emotional, physical, spiritual and cognitive needs of the individual and family.

Music therapy interventions may include:

  • Song writing
  • Improvisation
  • Imagery and music
  • Lyric analysis
  • Singing
  • Instrument playing
  • Relaxation techniques
