Hospice Care – Center Care

Gilchrist has three hospice inpatient centers — Gilchrist Center Towson, Gilchrist Center Howard County and Gilchrist Center Baltimore. Our centers care for individuals with pain and symptoms that cannot be managed at home or in a residential community. In addition, we care for those unable to remain in their homes. Our centers are staffed by physicians, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains and volunteers, and offer round-the-clock care. Watch the video below to learn more.

Hospice Inpatient Centers

Physicians, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains and volunteers staff our inpatient centers, and offer round-the-clock care.

Our three inpatient centers offer the comforts of home. The colors are warm and bright, with beautiful décor to create a tranquil, home-like feel in rooms and in common spaces where families can gather. Loved ones may visit any time of day or night. Pet visits require prior approval. All of our centers are smoke-free.

Levels of Care

Acute Inpatient Care

Round-the-clock inpatient care is provided for patients with acute needs, including complex pain and other symptoms that cannot be controlled at home. Patients receive skilled observation and monitoring which may lead to changes in the plan of care. Sometimes patients require a short stay in an inpatient hospice to stabilize their symptoms before returning home.

Respite Care

Gilchrist offers short-term respite care in its centers and in select area nursing facilities. Respite care helps when a caregiver needs a rest from the demands of home care or needs to leave the home for an extended period of time. Under most insurance plans, respite care can be provided for up to five days at a time.

Residential Inpatient Care

Gilchrist Center Baltimore provides round-the-clock residential inpatient care. This care is for patients who need a safe environment in which to live or who lack an able caregiver. Care is less intensive than acute inpatient care.
