For many of us who have lost a loved one, the joy of the holiday season is tempered with sadness. When I lost my darling Jim to cancer six years ago, I suffered a hole in my heart and an emptiness that can never be filled.

While those amazing family and friends who love me would never consider my pain a burden, I knew that all they wanted was for me to feel better. Consequently, I tried to be stronger around them. But during the counseling that Gilchrist provided, I didn’t have to be strong for anyone. I was free to fall apart.

In the weeks and months that followed, Gilchrist was there with support, comfort, and kindness, provided in the gentlest of ways. Until you have lost a loved one, you can’t fully grasp what this care means. But sooner or later, all of us will walk this path. You will want Gilchrist to walk it with you.

These counseling services, as well as Gilchrist’s hospice and elder medical care programs, are made possible through the generosity of caring individuals throughout our community. I hope you will join me in making a tax-deductible gift to Gilchrist to ensure that this compassionate care and support continues to be available to anyone who needs it.

My Jim and I would have celebrated our 34th anniversary last month. I miss him every day. I will never fully recover from a loss so profound. But I am enormously grateful that I wasn’t alone.

Your gift to Gilchrist will provide care that is desperately needed—for not only the ones who are ill, but also their families. Nothing could be more meaningful to those facing a loss.

On behalf of Gilchrist and all of the families in its care, thank you, and warmest wishes for a wonderful holiday season.

You can make your tax-deductible gift to Gilchrist at gilchristcares.org/donate.
